MISSIONS MINISTRY
IDENTIFYING SCRIPTURE:
“…you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria,
and even to the remotest part of the earth”
Acts 1:8b
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The
Missions Ministry exists to carry out the Great Commission Jesus gave to His
apostles in taking the gospel of Christ to the “remotest part of the earth.”
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Promote missions in the church through the following
means:
a)
Keep
the missions board up-to-date with the latest correspondence from our
supporting missions.
b)
In
conjunction with the elders and staff, schedule regular, guest,
mission-speakers for the church.
c)
Plan,
promote, and organize an annual mission’s fair where various missions are
represented and the church is informed of their work for Christ.
d)
Highlight
different missions in the church bulletin, via an insert, through taking a
portion of a missionary’s written correspondence and formatting a mission’s
spotlight. This could be done quarterly or at the discretion of the
Ministry Team.
e)
Educate
the church concerning emergency needs of our supporting missionaries.
f)
Educate
the church concerning the importance of missions through video clips and brief
spotlight announcements in the church’s assemblies.
2. Plan short-term mission trips in the United States and to
foreign countries.
3. Meet regularly to write letters and send cards of
encouragement to our supporting missions.
4. Make a list of prayer needs of the church’s supporting
missions as well as other mission’s needs and meet regularly to pray for these
needs as well as placing mission prayer needs on the church’s prayer list.
5. Pray regularly and fervently for “the Lord of the harvest”
(Matt. 10:37,38) remembering that
workers in the kingdom is directly associated to asking God to send for
laborers into the fields “white for harvest” (Matt. 9:37-38, John 4:35).
6. Evaluate the ongoing needs of the church’s supporting
missions on an annual basis (early fall) making any recommendations to the
elders concerning the stoppage of support, the increase of support, or the
beginning of new support for an existing or new mission.
7. Make the elders aware of any pressing mission’s need that
might call for a special offering or other special attention from the
congregation.
