About Us

Who we are, where we come from, and where we're headed as a church family.

Who We Are

We are a group of broken, flawed, and messed up people who have found hope in Jesus Christ. He lifted us out of the darkness of despair, bound up our broken hearts, and gave us a purpose. We may never be perfect on our own, but we can be perfect in Him. We are redeemed. We are a family. We are the church of Jesus Christ, and we want to share His offer of salvation with the world.

Where We Come From

On February 27th, 1955, the church met for their first worship service in a private home; nine people were in attendance. As the church grew, land was purchased in August 1957 and a building was constructed and incorporated as the First Christian Church, Glen Burnie, Maryland.

March 25th, 1985 marked the day the 24.24 acres was purchased on New Cut Road, with the vision of building and growing the church on that location. Through countless hours of prayer, sacrifice, and hard work, Severn Christian Church became a reality on June 21st, 1998, when the church met for her first assembly in the new building.

In 2005 the Family Life Center was constructed. A full size basketball court, industrial kitchen, class rooms and a youth area are all encompassed within the FLC. It has been an incredible blessing to the church and community, hosting sporting events, bible studies, receptions, fellowships and so much more.

Where We're Headed

We are commanded to be a city on a hill, and a light in the darkness. We want to be exactly that. We are focused on spreading the gospel of Jesus to our community, our county, and beyond. We are focused on bringing new people into the Lord's church and converting them to faith in Jesus. Not an empty, talk-the-talk kind of faith, but a living, saving faith in Jesus Christ that brings about a radical change in people's lives. We want to make disciples who know how to make disciples. That's what Jesus did. It's what the early church did. It's what we're commanded to do.

What this Means for You

What does this mean for you? It means you're welcome here, just as you are. You don't need to have it all together. You don't need to worry about what people will think. You can find a place where people will love and accept you here at SCC. You are not alone. Jesus loves you, and we will too.
